Murcia

Murcia is the capital city of the Province and is a fascinating place to visit.
The history of the city goes back over 1200 years where it was originally founded as part of Cordoba. Certainly amongst the famous visiting points for any traveller is the Cathedral de Santa Maria. Finished in the 15th century the cathedral is the most impressive monument of Murcia. The city is divided by the Segura River and is known for its beautiful Baroque Cathedral, Almudi Palace and the castle of Monteagudo ( where the Arab influence can be well appreciated ), a fortress from the 11th c., the Market de Veronicas, the Malecon Garden, the University of Murcia and the Museum Ramon Gaya.

Cartagena

Cartagena sits to the South of Los Alcazares you will find within, a wealth of history and beautiful architecture. If you explore the port area you will find a mixture of old and new. The large naval base occupies a large area and throughout the city, the importance of the port will become evident with numerous buildings belonging to the navy, as well as a good naval museum. You must see the Naval Headquarters, Artillery Headquarters, Dockyard Gate and the Midshipman School. Cartagena is home to the Peral Submarine, built in Cadiz in 1884-the very first of its type!! There are plenty of parks and squares to rest in, surrounded by good restaurants and bars and you will almost certainly find life here very slow and easy going. You will find the very helpful tourist office close to the station at the end of Calle San Diego. They will supply you with a good street map to make your visit easier. Most of the sights can be found in one central area, all within easy walking distance.

Lo Pagan

Lo Pagan on the is best known for its therapeutic mud baths, the mud has been renowned from early times for its healing powers. Due to the long hours of sunlight and the very high salt level in the waters a unique mud has been created in a section of the lake known as La Puntica - the mud contains high levels of potassium, calcium, magnesium, flouride, sulphur and chlorine. The mud is recommended for many skin conditions including acne, abscesses, sores and ulcers, it also has a stimulating effect on wound healing. The mud is also recommended for its anti-imflammatory effect on rheumatism, arthritis, gout and for rehabilitation after a bone fracture. The mud is applied over the infected areas and allowed to dry in the sun before being washed off in the salt waters. The salt water itself is also known for its healing effects.
